Description

Located in Granollers, the refurbishment consisted of adapting the structure of an existing old house to accommodate a dwelling for a small family with a reduced budget. The brief was very simple, a day area, two rooms and a games room, but it required to raise one more floor on the existing house. The low budget required leaving out all the unnecessary, working with ceramic bricks as the only structural and finishing material. The interior spaces vary in height depending on their use, combining single and double-height spaces, all with a strong sense of materiality expressed by the different tones of natural light.

Given the initial dimensions of the house, very narrow and very deep, the intervention focused on providing natural light the central part of the house. A double height ceiling with two skylights works as a covered patio that gives ventilation to the central part, opening during the hot seasons, functioning as a chimney to extract hot air naturally.
